When Suzanne* went to get her first Brazilian bikini wax two years ago, she was a little nervous. "I'd heard horror stories about the pain involved," she said. But now, having her bikini line nearly hair-free is just another part of her beauty regimen. Usually, a Brazilian bikini wax is a more daring approach to the regular waxing routine. All that is left behind is a small tuft of hair, unless you ask to go completely bare. The procedure is done in a salon, and takes no more than 15-20 minutes.
While some women cringe at the thought of waxing their pubic hair, others claim it revs up their sex lives as well as makes them feel good about themselves. Waxing can even leave hair in amusing shapes, like a heart for Valentine's Day. "My boyfriend gets turned on every time I come back from the salon." Suzanne raved. "He was definitely more enthusiastic about performing oral sex."
A Brazilian bikini wax is also called a Playboy wax or a sex wax, for obvious reasons. It exposes the most private part of your body! Before you dare to bear, be aware of the risks involved. Waxing easily irritates delicate skin, and infections may occur. Here is a checklist to insure your safety:
- Make sure your salon's aesthetician is licensed to wax. Some states don't require licensing. Try to use a salon that has experience with Brazilian waxing, which is more intense than regular bikini waxing.
- Inspect your salon for cleanliness. New wax strips should always be used to prevent infection. Aestheticians should also wear latex gloves during waxing.
- Wear cotton underwear and avoid tight pants for a couple days.
- Moisturize the area daily with a gentle, hypoallergenic lotion. Also try not to use harsh soaps or sponges, which can irritate your skin.
- Waxing more than once a month can cause infection or severe irritation.
Bikini waxing can range in price from upwards of $20, depending on the salon and the extent of area. If you intent to maintain your bikini line, you would probably need re-waxing every six weeks or so. This may run up quite a bill at the salon for some, while others may enjoy it and add it to their salon regimen! Whatever the case, make sure this routine is enjoyable for both you and your partner. If you can't stand it, there's nothing wrong with having a full head of hair - down there! |
